2012 Department of Economics Annual Newsletter

Letter from the Department Chair

It is my pleasure to write again and update you on the activities at the MSU Economics Department.  The department is thriving, so this is an enjoyable task.  Students continue to flock to economics.  For the first time the number of Economics majors exceeds 1000, making us the second largest major in the College of Social Science.

The Economics Help Room

For decades, taking a "principles" class in economics has been a rite of passage for most MSU students.

Econ Help Desk

In recent years the Economics department has introduced a new way of helping students master the principles of economics: The Economics Help Room.

Department Honors Outstanding Undergraduates

Econ undergrad winners 2012

Each spring, the Department of Economics invites the very best of its graduating seniors and their families to an Undergraduate Awards reception. On April 11, 2012, these students were honored and presented with awards that have been established by alumni and friends of the Economics department. At the reception, faculty and staff of the department gathered to recognize nine students for their achievements.

Economics Department Establishes Advisory Board

The newly constituted Advisory Board for the Department of Economics met for the first time this fall. The Board is made up seven graduates of the department and two former faculty members, all of whom have compiled impressive lists of accomplishments in business, academe, and/or public service. The department appreciates the willingness of these individuals to lend their time, knowledge, and expertise to our ongoing efforts to improve the MSU Department of Economics.
