Alexander Montes is an economics senior, and he is the president of the Econ Club.
Why did you choose Economics as your major?
Ever since I took AP Micro / Macro, I knew that this was the subject I would be most interested in for my academic and professional career! I particularly enjoy the intersection of government policy and how econometrics can be used to carry out effective public policy!
What has been your favorite Economics class so far and why?
I really enjoyed EC 301. The intersection between economics and calculus in this class is challenging yet rewarding because you are able to understand basic economic theory and why it is the way it is.
What are you looking forward to this year academically?
I am looking forward to taking Public Expenditures (EC435).
Are you involved in extracurricular activities or clubs? If so, which ones?
I am president of Economics Club, which I am very excited to grow as a professional development organization for all people interested in economics. I am also treasurer of Latino Leaders in Policy, a CRU affiliated organization focusing on Latino advocacy in the legislative process. Finally, I am active in Outdoors Club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2027!
