The MSU Department of Economics is pleased to announce that Jeffrey A. Levy, Ph.D., an alumnus of MSU Economics, has joined the department as an assistant professor of instruction.

"It’s a remarkable honor to join my alma mater and stand up on the other side of the podium of classrooms I sat in as a student," he said.

Professor Levy has classroom experience teaching economics to both undergraduate and graduate students, including teaching applied machine learning to students both in public policy and social science.

"I particularly enjoy leaning on my experience with research in both academia and the public sector to help students prepare for quantitative research roles after graduation," he said.

During the upcoming academic year, Professor Levy will be teaching principles of microeconomics and principles of macroeconomics.

Professor Levy's research focuses on macroeconomics and economic uncertainty, especially the causes and impacts of economic uncertainty on the real economy.

"I am also pursuing research on pedagogy and prediction using machine learning techniques," he said.

Before joining MSU, Professor Levy was an assistant instruction professor at the University of Chicago and previously a data scientist at Urban Institute. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. from American University, and his B.A. in economics from MSU.

When asked to share a fun fact, Professor Levy said that he has an 8-month-old puppy who takes all of his free time currently.
