Rebecca Mizell joined the MSU Department of Economics as their new office manager and fiscal officer (FO) in January 2026. Rebecca has been with MSU for about 16 years.
“Having spent my entire career at MSU, I’ve always appreciated the strong sense of community and the impact the university has on students and the broader community,” Rebecca said. “This role gives me the opportunity to work more closely with faculty and research while also stepping into a supervisory role. It also allows me to continue using my financial and operational experience, so it felt like a natural next step professionally.”
Rebecca joined MSU in 2010 as the office manager for the Council of Graduate Students, then moved into the role as the Registered Student Organization business manager and FO, both in the Division of Student Affairs and Services. After that, she became the FO at WKAR in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. Throughout her roles, she’s enjoyed learning about different parts of the university and building relationships.
“The most rewarding part of my career is helping people and making things run smoothly behind the scenes,” she said. “Whether it’s solving a problem, improving a process, or helping someone understand the financial side of things, I really enjoy being a resource others can rely on.”
Outside of work, Rebecca spends most of her time with her husband and their two middle-school-aged sons.

“Our twin boys are active in sports, so we’re usually at a football, basketball, baseball game or wrestling tournament depending on the season. I love being involved and cheering them on,” she said. “When I have free time, I also enjoy golfing and working on projects around the house.”
A fun fact about Rebecca is that she’s usually the organizer of everything: schedules, events, projects, vacations, and she enjoys planning and bringing order to chaos.
One thing she hopes to share with the department is that her door is always open.
“I’m always happy to help, so I encourage people to reach out if they have questions or just want to connect,” she said. “I really value collaboration and being part of a supportive team.”
“We’re grateful to have Rebecca join our team and for the wealth of knowledge and experience she brings to the department,” said Professor Scott Imberman, chair of the MSU Department of Economics. "I am excited to have this opportunity to work closely with her to ensure departmental operations continue to run smoothly and efficiently."
Please join us in welcoming her to the department.
