Biography

Kenneth (“Ken”) Boyer grew up in Brooklyn, NY, received his B.A. in Economics from Amherst College (1970) and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan (1975). He joined the MSU economics department in 1975.

Ken is professionally known for his work in transportation economics. He is the author of Principles of Transportation Economics and has published numerous papers on issues related ... to government regulation of transportation industries. In 2017 he was given the Distinguished Transportation Researcher award by the Transportation Forum.

As an assistant professor, Ken was a winner of MSU’s Teacher/Scholar award, indicating a commitment to excellence in teaching that he maintained throughout his career. Ken has also served on a number of national committees assembled to provide technical advice to policy makers regarding various transportation-related topics, such as navigation on the upper Mississippi river and rail freight modernization.
