Dr. Edward Montgomery

Joe HollisDr. Edward Montgomery is the President of Western Michigan University and the former Dean of the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. Prior to that, he served on President Obama’s Auto Task Force as Executive Director of the White House Council for Auto Communities and Workers. From 2003 to 2008 he served as the Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland where he had been on the Economics Department faculty since 1990. He also worked in the Clinton administration as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor where he oversaw the operations of a $33 billion agency.

Dr. Montgomery was on the faculty of the MSU Economics Department from 1986 until 1990.  He earned his B.S. (Honors) in Economics from Pennsylvania State University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.
